Homer!! Land’s End, Fishing, Tsunami threat, earthquake, views! FAVORITE! 4 nights (departed today Homer 7/18/25, arrived today Seward)
33” halibut, 27” halibut, 1 lg. yellow-eyed rockfish, & 2 lg. black rockfish
I was so much looking forward to Homer, afraid I would be disappointed, but wasn’t! Our RV site is on a bluff overlooking the ocean and then the mountains covered in snow. Prettiest by far!
The Spit, goes way out with a ton of fishing, shops and restaurants. Catching fish off the end was an afternoon of fun catching cod, along with Francois doing a day trip catching halibut, yellow-eyed rock fish, & black rock fish.
We had a morning of kayaking, that a boat took us way out to some islands. It was really peaceful with some seals and otters and starfish to be seen.
Yesterday, we took a ferry to Seldovia Island. While we were in a golf cart roaming around, we got the tsunami alert. All the locals told us we were to go to the elementary school on high ground. We ended up being there one and a half hours before the all clear was sounded. I’m sure you heard there was a 7.3 earthquake in Alaska off the Aleutian islands. We happen to be in the southernmost part of Alaska that is drivable. They were evacuating the long Spit area. Luckily we weren’t in kayaks yesterday.
Oh my goodness!!! I can see why this is y'all's FAVORITE!!! Mine too :) and the last picture with oreo looking on is priceless!!!
